Screen printing: I made five separate screen prints with a mixture of dark and light blue ink. The different tones of each ink have not fully mixed with each other and because of this it creates a subtle marbled effect. I believe that this effect adds a sense of texture to the image and is reminiscent of old marble statues, which invokes an antique atmosphere within the print. I used a hand cut stencil I made to resemble a victorian cameo. I think that I have created a final print that is smooth and sleek and the dark blue ink is bold and stands out against the white background, I think that the side profile is neat and clean cut, and the way that the head and chin are tilted upwards allow the subject to seem elegant and regal. I believe that the decision to draw one of the braids curving upwards over the head was a good choice as it invokes a surreal and strange atmosphere within the image. The first few attempts of screen printing were not as successful as I would have liked them to

Dry point and Shin Cole I used one of my old tree photographs as a reference for my dry point print. I made sure to use fluid and curved lines to create the tree and then added straight jagged lines in the background so that they are in contrast with each other. I believe that the tree is the focal point of the image, it is in the centre of the print and I think that the smooth line allow the tree to appear approachable and comforting and feeling is enhance when compared to the harsh, fractured background. For the background I wanted to use harsh straight lines to create a stained glass effect which I think invokes a sacred and spiritual atmosphere. Especially when paired with the tree at the for front which I believe is reminiscent of the Yggdrasil from north religion and mythology. I believe that this print has been successful as the lines are clear and visible. I decided to develop this print further by using a technique where I place tissue paper onto the print and use dry wall pa
A response to modernism: The development of Abstraction by Odilia Bird I have chosen the topic of Abstract art because I believe that this is a fascinating approach to art that I feel connected to and that has influenced myself and my work. The Tate describes Abstract art as 'art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of visual reality but instead uses shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect' (tate.org.uk, no date) and I believe that abstract art is one of the foundations for the Modernism Movement, 'a global movement in society and culture that from the early decades of the 20th century sought a new alignment with the experience and values of modern industrial life (tate.org.uk, No date) and the modern art that we see today. (primordial Chaos, 1906) Wassily Kandinsky is often seen as the father of abstract art and many believe that he was the first artist to paint an abstract piece in 1911. However, a Swedish painter named Hilma
