Photoshop:
I decided to develop my images using photoshop and experiment with changing the colours and saturations within my photos. For my first two images I changed the sky purple, I wanted to create a dream like and whimsical image, as if you've walked into an alternate universe. I choose the colour purple as it can be used to represent magic, mystery and creativity and when looking at my images I believe that it invokes a feeling that's brooding and ominous, the dark purple adds to the stormy feeling within the image and the the bright light that's just off centre throws the overall image slightly off balance which I think adds to the dream like ambiance of the photo. I believe that the light acts as a beacon for the viewer, it instantly draws attention and when looking at it for a prolonged period of time it can almost seem like a portal due to the rays of light that can be seen shooting off from the centre, and the vacant sky causes the piece to feel desolate and uncanny. I decided to edit the image again and manipulate the saturation, however, when looking at the final product I believe that this has taken away the depth of the image, it looks flat and square like, pixel formations are beginning to form
For my second image I only played around with the saturation and increased it until the colours were bold and bright. I think that by doing this it allowed for more of the detail in the image to be brought and and for attention to be drawn to it, for example the the light that's being cast onto the branches is far more vivid, noticeable and it forms a connection and relationship between the different components of the photograph. When looking at the finished image I felt a human connection to it and when contemplating this I noticed that the tree branches resembled human anatomy such as veins, blood vessels and neurons and I believe that this allows the viewer to be able to connect and understand the piece on a deeper level. The majority of this image is filled and occupied by objects which I believe makes the image feel busier and more chaotic that the last one and the upwards angle causes the viewer to feel as if they are being towered over and cornered, like they are trapped and there is no escape, and I believe that this angle causes the street light to feel ominous and invokes a sense of danger, like a monster that has found your hiding spot and is taunting you.
For the final image I decided to cut and paste the street light from my first image and implement them within the photo using the object selection tool on photoshop. I didn't have any particular plan in mind and decided to just go with what I though in the moment, I position eight street lights in front of the building and used the erase tool to make it seem as if they were coming out from the roof of the building. I believe that by doing this I have transformed a relatively Palin image into something that's loud and odd, as I was doing this I was inspired my Dada photomontage techniques in which images are collaged together to create something that's weird and wonderful. When looking at the final product I believe that the image invokes an atmosphere that's wacky and fun and it doesn't have to make sense, I edited the sky to be purple and and manipulated the warmth of the image and when looking at the result I believe that I have created a piece that feels inviting and bubbly, the street lights add to this atmosphere as I think that street lights act as a visual fanfare inviting the viewer to join the fun. This was my first attempt at using photoshop and I believe that the images that I have created re successful and will continue to develop them further.
