 Frogs and photoshop:


I decided to use waterslide ceramic transfer prints to create neat detailed images of frogs on my ceramic pieces and to do this I needed to send images off to a company for them to be made. 

to create the images of the frogs I traced the outline of a selection of frogs from a book and then drew the details free hand using the original images from the book as a reference. I then transferred the image onto white paper and drew over it in a black sharpie so that the image had clear, bold lines. I used photoshop to remove the background so that only the black lines were visible and copy and pasted multiple images onto an A4 sheet in various sizes. I chose to use images of the frogs because it's a direct link to the original artwork.

I like the images of the frogs, they are neat and clean and the black lines are clear and I think that it's good that I have a variety of different images and sizes as there will be something different to look at on the ceramic pieces.

  End of year project: Final evaluation: For this final project I decided to merge the collections project and our end of year final project together due to the way in which my collections project was evolving and the time that I had left. The focus was mainly on bicycles, cogs and the way that they interacted with each other and their surroundings, and originally I wanted to create a series of photographs of people on bike rides and interacting with their bikes. I was very focused on the machinery and industrial aspect of the bikes and cogs and was inspired by artists such as Johnny White, who often incorporates metal and movement into his works, and Mike Brodies 'Train Hopper' photography series which was gritty and industrial.  Modernism: Comparing artists from different time periods The first piece of work that I will be analysing is called 'Rise of the Dovey' by John Piper, made in 1943. John Piper was and English painter, print maker and his work often focused on the British landscape. Piper was inspired by turners portrayal of Yorkshires Weathercote cave and began visiting similar locations which lead to his piece 'rise of the Dovey'.  'Rise of the Dovey' is oil on canvas board and when looking at this painting the first thing that I notice is the incredible portrayal and representation of light within this work. I believe that this immediately draws in focus and helps to create a sense of scale throughout the piece, the lighter areas allow the cliff face to stand out and it becomes this looming form that dominates the area.
