Grayson Perry:

When looking at this piece I believe that it is a political statement at heart, with ceramic prints of Margaret Thatchers face and a depiction of a girl and the stages of her growing up. The background colour is a pleasant sage green and I think that this allows the prints and the various statements to stand out clearly. I believe that this white glaze is complimentary to the green and also provides a clear contrast that bright, bold and draws the viewers attention. I think that the image of Margaret Thatcher is an obvious focal point is immediately draws attention and invokes a feeling of controversy while surrounded by phrases such as 'Eduction' and 'white man van'. This piece seems to make a point of Thatchers term as prime minister and the policies that she passed.

When looking at this piece I think that it is much more illustrated than the previous piece, figures and faces have been have been created with delicate fine lines and showcase lots of detail. I believe that the main focal point of this piece is the ceramic print in the middle. It depicts a persons head with a stern expression and I believe that this could be an image of Perry. The stare is hard and unforgiving and it seems to look directly at the viewer as if staring into their soul, I think that the illustrations paired with the darker colours and tones invoke a melancholic atmosphere within the piece. This feeling is amplified when looking closly at some of the images such as the face with tape over its mouth and the arms tied tightly with rope. I think that this piece is telling a personal story of oppression and repression and the importance of being true to who you are.
