Matthew Richardson:

When looking into ceramic transfer prints I came across an artist named Matthew Richardson, in this particular piece he has used a transfer print to create a small but detailed image of a Crocodile and prism, I think that this image provides a nice contrast to the the white tones of the ceramic surface and the image shows clear usage of shading which conveys depth and shadows. When looking at this image I believe that it as been placed neatly and central onto the ceramic piece which is not only aesthetically pleasing but also emphasises that it is the clear subject and focal point of the piece. Looking at the piece as a whole I really enjoy the odd shapes and rough edges, it's an interesting contrast to the careful details of the transfer print. I believe that the brown tones that can be seen around the edges of the piece allow it to seem older and weary, as if it is an old artefact that has just been dug up from the ground. The markings on the section at the top remind me of an octopus tentacle and I believe that this invokes a raw and animalistic atmosphere within the piece.
