Photography:

To start my final major project I decided to use photography to record my time in Devon. Since this project is about resilience and recovery I wanted to do all the things that I couldn't do last time I was in Devon due to my health at the time, this included walks, hikes, days out to local villages and trying different foods and meals. I wanted this series of photos to feel almost like a journal so I made sure to record everything from packing the car the morning of going, meals and cleaning up the apartment the day of leaving.

One of my favourite photos out of all of these was actually a mistake I made while trying to focus the sense. The result is this fuzzy yet dreamy seascape image, despite the lack of focus I think that the light and reflections that have been captured in this image is intriguing and striking. I believe that the speckled dots of light around the middle of the photograph create a magical atmosphere within the image as if fairy dust has been sprinkled in the air. I think that there is something dreamlike about this image, the unfocused aspect creates a hazy view as if the viewer is uncovering a forgotten memory.

When looking at this image I am instantly hit with feelings of nostalgia, I think that this image looks like something you would find in an old, forgotten photo album, something that would take you down memory lane and allow allow you to reminisce on the 'good old days'. The worn orange paint that's peeling away and the rusted metal frame bring a tired and exhausted feeling to the image, like someone who has just got home from a long shift and needs to rest. The orange tones are bright and bold and they draw focus with the black and white sign providing a contrast and focal point for the image.

I took this image during dinner, this photo is one that means a lot to me. The last time I was in Devon I wasn't able to eat a full meal so this time we ordered a large meal from the local cafe. When looking at this photo there are wrappers, boxes and condiments scattered across the table and I think that this creates a chaotic yet homely and atmosphere. I think that there is something comforting about this image, like going back to your childhood home after a few years to spend time with your family.
