Richard Longs performance piece 'Walking a line in Peru' was created and photographed in 1972. This image features a long, thin and straight line in the middle of a large field of grass heading towards the mountains in the distance. When looking at this piece I believe that there is a feeling of loneliness within this image, the field is so big and the mountains tower in the distance but there is not a single person in sight. I think that the lack of people paired with the singular path that has been made creates an atmosphere of longing and emptiness. As if someone has had to make this long journey all alone and all that's left as proof that they were ever there is this path. I think that the black and white tones within the image add to the atmosphere that has been created. It makes it seem like and old polaroid that has been found and allows the darker tones on the shadows to be more prominent and striking allowing them to seem bigger and more defined.

Richard Longs piece 'Boyhood Line' was created in 2015. This piece features a long path made of white rocks in the middle of a field, surrounded by trees. In comparison to the previous piece I think that this piece has a much more vibrant and optimistic atmosphere. The colours are bright and I believe that the lush greenery allows the image to feel like it's full of life. I think that the white tones of the path seem almost luminescent against the grass as if it is beckoning the viewer to follow it. Compared to 'walking a line in Peru' which felt like a long and hard path to take, I think that this piece feels fun, as if the path is taking the viewer on an adventure. When looking at this image I am reminded of the yellow brick rad from the wizard of Oz and I believe that this magical and whimsical feeling is present throughout this piece.
