For the end of year exhibition we were tasked with creating our own exhibitions labels with an artist statement on them to go along side our work. To do this I wrote a rough draft which I then put into Chat GTP to help make it sound more professional. I then further edited my statement to allow it to feel personal and to include important details.

Exhibition Label:

This series documents the artist’s journey of recovery following a decline in health. Using photography as a form of therapy and self-expression, the artist created four digital collages that combine landscapes, food, and positive affirmations which are symbols of healing and resilience that they use in their daily life. These elements come together to form a visual narrative that reflects the emotional and physical demands of recovery, as well as the joy that can be found at the end of the journey, this piece offers a quiet but powerful testament to the strength found in the process of healing.

 FMP evaluation: This FMP lasted 16 weeks and concludes the 2nd year of my Fine Arts Foundation Degree. To begin my project I started off with some photography of walks and hikes that I did while on holiday. The theme of this project was about recovery, this was a personal theme as last year I had come down very suddenly with an illness and have spend months recovering from it. I wanted this project to explore the themes of sickness, recovery, how these thing change and affect your every day life and the resilience and perseverance needed to get better.  Through a series of images I was able to document walks, hikes and meals that I would not have been able to do or eat a month before and I found this process empowering and liberating. Once I had the foundations I was able to start developing my project.  Final piece: As a final development for this project I was speaking to some of my course mates and one of them suggested the possibility of placing my cut outs outside. I really liked this idea and thought that it ties in well with my theme so I went into my back garden and placed the cut outs in different places such as against a stone wall and in a bush.  The first this I noticed while looking at my work outside is that I believe that this brought my work to life, it was as if everything fell into place and my work suddenly made complete sense while in an outside, natural environment. I think that having my pieces placed outside allowed the images to be tied back to the original photos of litter that I took at the very beginning of the project creating a nice cycle from start to finish.  When looking at my final images I believe that there is something quite comical about them, fake litter being placed outside masquerading as real litter.
