Gaping Gill:
Over the summer holidays I visited a cave called 'Gaping gill' and thought that the photographs and experience related well to my current project.
This first image highlights lighting and texture, the rocks that can be seen are rough and jagged and showcase the wild and untamed nature of the cave. The rocks invoke a feeling of strength and resilience and the flowing water fall provides and aspect of movement and change, contrasting each other. I think that the warm man made lighting is in opposition the the grey tones of the rocks creating a sense of familiarity and warmth within this cold and uncaring cave.
When I look at this image is seem grand and powerful to me, the waterfall rushing through the opening of the cave in an unstoppable motion invokes a feeling of might. I think that this image really speaks to the power of nature and we can explore and live within it but never stop it.
This image is much more dramatic, the darkness surrounding the small opening creates a black abyss and the people at the bottom looking up at the water fall invoke feelings of awe, as if they are witnessing something great. The lighter tones of the water fall contrast heavily against the dark surroundings causing it to become the focal point of the image.
To me these photographs showcase the wild beauty and power of the natural world and how somethings can't be tamed and should be left alone.
