Meghann Riepenhoff:

Riepenhoff is an artist who specialises in cyanotypes. Riepenhoff often depicts bodies of water and ice within her work. cyanotypes are a big part of my art practice and they are one of the first processes that I truly fell in love with.

When looking at this image I think that the combination of blues, greens and white create an initial cold and unfeeling atmosphere. Compared to the second work I feel that the cooler tones work together to repel rather than invite in. I really love the delicate lines and intricate detail that can be seen throughout this work, especially the mark son the lower sections. These lines seem to curve and flow outwards away from each other and create formations that remind me of feathers, or per hands they are the tracks of other animals that have been left behind, these seem to blend in and imbed themselves within the icy expanse, invoking an aspect of freedom and life throughout the work. I believe that the darker sections towards the top of the piece are definitely more inviting, but this is overshadowed by the cluster of dots and lines that seem to overtake this section of the work. When looking at this section I am reminded of sea life and remind me of anemones and jellyfish. I think that this creates a really interesting feeling within the work, it's intriguing but also cautious. You want to touch it but know that you might get hurt.

I really love this second piece, I find the deep blue hues to be inviting and tempting, pulling the viewer into its depths. I think that the geometric Dimond in the centre of the work not only acts as a focal point but also provides this really interesting almost clinical aspect to the image. The lines are for more clean cut and smooth compared to the jagged streaks that can be seen surrounding it and it seems as if its's protecting what's on the inside. On the inside of the diamond there are more of these small jagged lines. I was initially reminded on a lightening strike when looking at the formation but the longer I look at the image the more I believe that this formation is reminiscent of the blood vessels around human lungs. With this in mind, when I look at the work as a whole I start to notice the human elements within it. The lines shooting off the edges of the diamond look like veins, or hairs standing on end and I think that this is something that really resonates with the viewer. They are able to see parts of themselves distorted within the work.
