Learning how to use watercolours:
I have never used water colours before in any of my projects, and I wanted to experiment with them and try to develop some skills with the process. I decided to start by following tutorials rather than going of my own memories but I slo added my own spin on things so that I wasn't completely copying someone else and adding my own creativity into it.
The first painting is of a stormy sea sky. The most difficult aspect of this process for me was getting the right pigment of the colours and tones that I used. I found it hard to make the colours darker and thought that the results where far too faint and washed out than what I would have liked. I do think that this is a good abstract and gestural piece of work though and I'm fairly happy with the result. The colours and tones seem to mix and swirl together to not only create a heavy and stormy sky, but also areas that are brighter and more joyful. I decided to add salt to areas of the sky within this work and I really like the the new texture that it adds. I think that it creates a harsher element to the image, like acid rain falling from the sky.

This is my least favourite image, I actually kind of gave up in the end but I would like to go back and see if I can add some more detail on top. Again I was following a tutorial for painting ingleborough, which is somewhere that I have been multiple times. When looking at this work it obviously seems unfinished, there are gaps and the marks and lines seem messy and oddly placed. However, some elements that I do like about this work are the colours and tones that I have managed to mix together, especially the deep purple tones that I have made. I think think that they add a vibrancy and depth to the image that is really inviting.

I believe that this final watercolour work is my best one yet, I did have some trouble trying to get the level of pigment that I wanted and to remedy this I just hand to keep adding more of the colour methodically until I got something that resembled what I wanted. I think that this is the most realist of all my images and I believe that I have created a pleasant and picturesque landscape. The sky is a moody purple and I think that this a very atmospheric, paired with the looming mountain in the background I believe that this invokes a mysterious atmosphere. The seems to be partially covered by the swirling clouds making it half hidden and intriguing. I really love the deeper tones that I have managed to create, I think that the green has brown earthy tones within it that I think create this kind of marsh land scenery, and when looking at the work I think that there is this bleak but nostalgic feeling to it. I believe that I have managed to get a good sense of depth within this work, with distant trees in the background and bushes reflecting in the water in the foreground. To finish I splattered some purple watercolour across the image, I wanted to adds some more vibrant colour that resembled flowers and I feel that this ties the finished image together nicely.
