Short term goals:

For my short term goals I intend to continue to explore my fine art practice to discover new processes that I might enjoy and also build on and perfect my current processes. I intend to use my remaining year at Nottingham College to its fullest and make the most out of all the resources and opportunities that I have. I also plan on graduating with a 2:1 at the end of this college year. 

I wish to explore photoshop, photo editing and video editing much more throughout this coming college year. I want to develop my skills and perfect these processes as I believe that this will give me an interesting skillset and an edge when pursuing future endeavours within the photography business.

I plan on developing some of the more traditional art skills such as drawing and painting to a higher degree. As an artist I have mainly focused on more free and abstract processes while neglecting my foundational skills. This will better me as an artist and I believe that once I have improved on these traditional skills my other work will improve as well. 

I want to get involved more with local exhibitions and groups. I have always been shy about showing my work and I intend to challenge myself by finding and entering as many local exhibitions as I am able to this year. 

I plan on networking and connecting with other artists, especially photographers. I have always dealt with anxiety and have found it harder than most to put myself out there and join communities with other artists. By visiting shows, galleries and by joining society's I will not only be opening my self up for connections with other creatives which will help me develop my own art practice, but also possible business endeavours as well. 

I will be looking around University campuses and going to open days this year, in particular Falmouth and Lancaster. This will help me decide wether doing a masters is the right choice, and which university will be the best choice for me . 

Long term goals:

I plan on doing a masters in Fine Art. I would like to push forwards and pursue a Masters in Fine Art. I believe that this would not only help to continue to improve my practice as a whole and to allow me to understand myself and my practice on an even deeper level. But also allow me to be more desirable to future employers. 

I want to work within the photography business. While practicing art I have found that I gravitate more towards and enjoy photography processes. And while exploring different techniques I was surprised to find out how versatile photography is. I really love not only having and sharing the raw images, but also experimenting with editing and photoshop to create something new and fresh. It's my goal to create a career for myself within the photography business and I will do everything that I can to give myself the best chance. 

I would like to travel and document these experiences through the medium of photography. Growing up I have struggled with physical and mental health which has prevented me from exploring the world to the extent that I would like. I wish to find new and enthralling scenery and landscapes to document and be inspired by. I believe that this will help me continue to be inspired and grow as an artist as well as a person. 

Due to my desire to work as a photographer I believe that it is in my best interest to reach out and seek as many opportunities that I am able to. This includes possible apprenticeships.

 FMP evaluation: This FMP lasted 16 weeks and concludes the 2nd year of my Fine Arts Foundation Degree. To begin my project I started off with some photography of walks and hikes that I did while on holiday. The theme of this project was about recovery, this was a personal theme as last year I had come down very suddenly with an illness and have spend months recovering from it. I wanted this project to explore the themes of sickness, recovery, how these thing change and affect your every day life and the resilience and perseverance needed to get better.  Through a series of images I was able to document walks, hikes and meals that I would not have been able to do or eat a month before and I found this process empowering and liberating. Once I had the foundations I was able to start developing my project.  Final piece: As a final development for this project I was speaking to some of my course mates and one of them suggested the possibility of placing my cut outs outside. I really liked this idea and thought that it ties in well with my theme so I went into my back garden and placed the cut outs in different places such as against a stone wall and in a bush.  The first this I noticed while looking at my work outside is that I believe that this brought my work to life, it was as if everything fell into place and my work suddenly made complete sense while in an outside, natural environment. I think that having my pieces placed outside allowed the images to be tied back to the original photos of litter that I took at the very beginning of the project creating a nice cycle from start to finish.  When looking at my final images I believe that there is something quite comical about them, fake litter being placed outside masquerading as real litter.  Modernism: Comparing artists from different time periods The first piece of work that I will be analysing is called 'Rise of the Dovey' by John Piper, made in 1943. John Piper was and English painter, print maker and his work often focused on the British landscape. Piper was inspired by turners portrayal of Yorkshires Weathercote cave and began visiting similar locations which lead to his piece 'rise of the Dovey'.  'Rise of the Dovey' is oil on canvas board and when looking at this painting the first thing that I notice is the incredible portrayal and representation of light within this work. I believe that this immediately draws in focus and helps to create a sense of scale throughout the piece, the lighter areas allow the cliff face to stand out and it becomes this looming form that dominates the area.
