I really enjoyed our earlier task of creating wire leaves and decided to take it forward and recreate some photos of flowers that I have taken as wire sculptures, I used I thin, malleable wire and was able to easily bend and shape it with my fingers and a pair of pliers. To start with I made a small practice flower which I believe was successful, I positioned an equal amount of petals facing up and down to create and even finished look and when looking at the final product I think that it looks delicate and intricate, however, its too small for my liking so for my next attempts I will make them on a larger scale than before.
For my continued attempts I decided to make them bigger than my first and I also wanted to have a variety of different flowers so that they didn't all look the same, so while I did model some off my previous pictures I was also inspired by the forms and shapes of spider lilies, I believe that by taking these forms and shapes from the spider lilies I was able to invoke new feeling with my finished product and rather than just having a pretty flower I had something that had character and personality.
When looking at my finished flowers I can see that the wire produces lots of intricate detail and when I look closely I can see almost every bend and curve that I have made which I really like, I enjoy the fact that although there is a finished product I can still see evidence of all the work that I put into it. I believe that at first glance my flowers seem to be fragile and delicate, however, when looking closely I can see the sharp edges of the petals and end of the stems, I think that this causes them to feel deceptive and invokes an eerie feeling. Overall, I believe that this process as well as the final products have been successful and I'm proud of what I have made.
