Michelangelo:
The Creation of Adam:
'The creation of Adam' is a fresco painting, where the artist paints quickly on wet plaster before it dries, by Michelangelo that can be found on the ceiling of the Sistine chapel and showcases the biblical creation narrative of God giving life to Adam. I believe that this is an example of non ambiguous art as there is a clear religious meaning and story that is being depicted within the painting, if the viewer wanted to look deeper into the meanings and symbolisms shown within the image they may do so, however, at face value and a first glance the image shows God giving life to Adam, this is also reflected in the name of the painting which I believe further confirms that there is a clear meaning and story to this painting. When looking at this piece I can see that the lines within it are curved, soft and the colour scheme is bright but pale, I believe that this allows the painting to feel youthful and wistful, the human form that can be seen throughout the image allows the viewer to be able to relate and connect to the painting on a certain level, however, the body's are nude and idealistic which I think elevates the piece so that it is just out of reach for the viewer, and I believe that the poses of subjects reaching towards each other invoke a sense of love, devotion and longing that can be felt throughout the piece.
Henry Moore:
Two large forms:
For an example of ambiguous art I chose 'Two large forms' by Henry Moore, This large scale sculpture is 360 x 610 x 435 cm and made out of bronze, Moore intended for these large scale structure to be interested with and seen up close and even touched, and utilised three dimensions and holes into his sculptures to cause the sculpture to seem as if it was growing from an absent centre. I think that this sculpture feels fluid and free, the curves and lines invoke a playful aura, and combined with the lopsided and wonky aspects of the piece I believe that it feels childlike and young, like a creature exploring a new place fore the first time and the sheer size of the sculpture cause it to stand out and feel monumental in the space that its been placed in and I think that it works better in a natural setting as I believe that the curves of the sculpture are reminiscent of the rolling hills in the background.
