I decided to take my projections further by projecting onto myself as well as the white background. To add to my theme of aliens and biology as well as taking inspiration from movies such as 'contagion' I chose to wear white medical suit and face mask, this not only allowed the silhouettes of my wire flowers to show up more clearly on myself but also added to the atmosphere of the piece and creating a more obvious connection to my themes.
I believe that the first two attempts I made were not as successful as my later attempts, I only used two flowers for the silhouettes and I think that the overall image looks quite bare and sparse, it didn't have the overrun and chaotic atmosphere that I wanted and I think that the decision to keep the hood of my suit down took away from the clinical aspect that I was aiming for, nut my favourite out of the two was the second image where one of the shadows seems to be moving through me. I believe that this make it look like I have been taken over my one of these shadow creatures and am being used as a puppet which I think invokes an ominous atmosphere. I also had to turn around the top that I was wearing as the writing on the front was visible through the overalls that I was wearing and caused the image to look sloppy and unprofessional. Overall, for these two images I believe that the initial foundations and ground work is there, however, I need to develop the composition further for it to be truly successful.
To develop this idea I decided that I need more shadows in the background so I took the wire flowers from my previous collage and and put them all under the light projector to create a multitude of silhouettes, and I placed them in multiple different positions to experiment with the composition. I believe that these images look far more odd and impactful, it's being taken over by these organic, alien forms and they look like they're reaching out to capture me as well, which I believe invokes an atmosphere of stress and panic. I think that adding me in the image causes there to be an immediate focal point which draws the viewers focus and attention, I believe that the white background combined with my white suit and white face mask cause the image to feel clinical, clean and impersonal like a hospital room or a laboratory, however, I think that the way I'm staring directly at the viewer contrasts this as I'm providing a way for the viewer to connect and relate through eye contact.
I believe that all of the images I have from my second experiment are successful, however, my favourite is the first one where I am staying slightly to the side and I have chosen this to be my final image. In all the others I am standing square and facing the front but when looking at my final image I noticed that change in stance changes the atmosphere of the image, I think that I look more defensive and on guard and the way the shadows are warping around me paired with my vacant expression adds an air of helplessness to the piece, as if it is too late to stop the monsters that have taken over. Overall, I think that this development has been very successful and I believe that my final image is impactful and strong.
