Bonnington Gallery: Robb Claytons 'Estate Series' were the images that I was drawn to the most out of the whole exhibition and features two images. One of what looks like a married couple standing behind a cash register in a corner shop, and the other is a close up of a table with with milk, sugar and an old radio on top of it.  I was particularly draw to these two images as as the colour grading that has been used seems vibrant in a way that contrasts the mundane settings. In the first photograph my eyes are immediately drawn to the multitude of alcohol and cigarette packets stacked behind the cash register, and the junk food sprawled across the counter top. It reminds me of the toner shops near my own home that I would go to as a teenager to be able to buy cheap sweets and energy drinks and I believe that this setting invokes a nostalgic feeling for the viewer. As if they were getting a glimpse back to their school days. When looking closely I can see that there are to...

Artist Research: Hannah Hoch While creating my own own collages I was inspired by DaDa collages, in particular Hannah Hochs work. When looking at Hochs Collage 'Ohne titel' made in 1930. I immediately notice the bright and bold red background. I think that this grabs the viewers attention straight away and is in direct contrast to the paler, more subdued colours that have been layered on top. The subject of this collage seems to be a woman made up of two different halves that are slightly disproportionate to each other, to me, I think that it has some reminiscence to Frankensteins monster in the way that Koch has used the body parts of different women to create a full figure. And I believe that this creates an unsettling atmosphere within the piece. the subject seems to be standing at the top in an almost crucifixion pose, as if she is being put on display and sacrificed to the Gods. I also think that there are parallels to virginal sacrifices seen in ancient  Rome and G...

Artists research: Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp while photographing my own 'Fountain' New York bagel bag I was inspired by Andy Warhols 'Campbells soup cans' and Marcel Duchamps 'Ready Made'.  When looking at Warhols 'Campbells soup cans' I think that this piece is simplistic but elegant. the bold red is a stark contrast to the white background and allows the image of the can to be a powerful and obvious focal point that draws the eye and distinguishes itself. I love the repeat pattern of the can with the small change of the flavours in each image, I think that it's fun and it seems lift the mood of the prints as if it's an inside joke between the artist and viewer. I believe that the finer lines and marks within the prints allows that piece to have more delicate aspects to it and I think that this created an undertone of fragility to the piece that contrasts the main theme of consumerism.  when looking at Duchamps 'Fountain' is a ready...

Development of collecting litter: I was inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol and Marcel Duchamp, especially Duchamps 'Readymade', and Warhols 'Campells soup cans'. I was inspired by these two pieces in partucular due to the fact that they both revolve around objects that have already been made. They didn't necessarily have to come up with an entire composition for the work, duchamps being already made for him and Warhols being an observed drawing. there is something simple but enticing about both pieces. Initially I wanted these images to be a commentary on consumerism and the kind of food that we eat. When looking at their pieces I was reminded of stock photos and product placement and photos, things that you would see in a telemarketing show and I wanted to emulate this within my own work. I has been collecting old sweet and crisp wrapper as well as different types of plastic packaging from my house as well as other peoples so that I could recycle them properly...
